Sakai 21 - Profile: How do I edit my profile photo?

How do I edit my profile photo?

Your profile photo is displayed to others in your Sakai sites through the Roster tool and displayed by your message posts in the Discussions and Chat Room tools. Your photo is also displayed to you in the top right corner of Sakai when you are logged in.

The following steps describe how you can edit your profile photo.

Click your first name or current photo in the top right corner of Sakai.

User account menu.

Click your current photo in the popup menu.

Click your current photo in the popup menu.

Hover the mouse cursor over your current photo in the popup menu. A label stating Change will appear. Click the image to proceed.

Or go to Profile in the Home site.

Go to Profile.

Select the Profile tool from the Tool Menu in the Home site.

Click Change Profile Picture.

Click the Change Profile Picture button.

Choose a file to upload.

Select a new picture and upload.

Click the Choose File or Browse button to browse your computer for a new image.

Select your new picture.

Once you have located the image you would like to use, select it and click Open.

Note: Your image must be in a web-friendly format (such as .jpg, .gif or .png) and 2 MB or less in file size.

Crop and save your new picture.

Crop and save your new picture.

The filename of the picture you selected will display by the Choose File or Browse button. The uploaded image must be cropped to fit within a square shape. The part of the image outside the cropping square will be not be saved when stored in Sakai. Click and drag the border of the cropping square to adjust as desired, and click the Save button to set the cropped image as your profile picture.

Note: If you decide you do not want the uploaded image, click the Remove button. Then after reloading the page, proceed from the beginning to select a different image file.

Warning: Any time a cropped portion of your profile photo is saved in the process described above, the portion of the image outside the cropping square will be discarded. This portion cannot be recovered from within Sakai. Thus, you will likely want to keep a backup of your image file on your computer, smart phone, or elsewhere in the cloud, which you can subsequently reload back into Sakai and re-crop if you have mistakenly cropped out too much of the image. In other words, Sakai's profile photo feature does not store copies of the original image files users upload through this process (unlike the Resources tool, etc.), which is why you will likely want to retain copies of your original image files elsewhere.

Reload to see your updated profile photo.

A notice will appear stating Reload to see your updated photo. Click the Reload link within that popup to reload the page.

Picture updated.

Your profile picture has been updated, visible in both the Profile tool and in the user account menu located in the top right corner of Sakai. This image will display when Sakai users view your profile. It is visible in places such as the Discussions and Chat Room tools when you post messages. You profile photo is also visible within the Roster tool.
