How do I enter comments on student attendance records?

Instructors have the option of commenting on an individual student's attendance record for an individual attendance item. Attendance comments can either be private to the instructor or displayed to the student.

Comment on a student's attendance record

To comment on a students' attendance record:

  1. Navigate to the Attendance tool in your course site.

  2. Click on the Attendance tab at the top of the screen.

  3. Click on the attendance item for which you'd like to enter a comment.

  4. Click on the comment bubble for the student for whom you want to enter a comment.

  5. Enter a comment and press the Save button when you are finished.

  6. The comment box will become shaded (filled in) and there will be a green confirmation message at the top of the screen.

Display comments to students

To display comments to students:

  1. Navigate to the Attendance tool in your course site.

  2. Click on the Settings tab at the top of the screen.

  3. In the Edit Comment Settings area, scroll past the statuses to see an option to Show comments to students and check the box. (Unchecking the box will make comments invisible to students but private to instructors.)

  4. Click Save Settings.
