Sakai 25 - Tests & Quizzes: How do I make an assessment to draw random questions from a question pool?

How do I make an assessment to draw random questions from a question pool?
Go to Tests & Quizzes.
Select the Tests & Quizzes tool from the Tool Menu of your course.
Select an assessment.
Random question sets may be added to any assessment. Select an existing assessment or create a new one to add a random question set.
Create a New Assessment.
Click Add.
Create a new assessment.
For more information on creating new assessments, see How do I create an assessment?
- Enter an Assessment Title.
- Select the Create using assessment builder radio button.
- Click Create.
Or edit an existing assessment.
Edit a part.
In Tests & Quizzes, open the assessment and find the part. To edit the name and any of the information and settings associated with a part, next to that part's name, click Edit.
Add attachment. (Optional)
Click Add Attachments to browse for and select a file attachment if desired.
Select Part Type.
Choose one of the Random options for the part Type:
- Random draw from question pool - randomly select specific number of questions from all available questions within a question pool
- Fixed and Random draw from question pool - include some specific/fixed questions as well as some random draw questions
- Random draw from multiple question pools - randomly select specific number of questions from all available questions within more than one question pool
If "Random draw from question pool" is selected, the following options will display.
- Enter the number of questions to draw from the selected question pool.
- Select the question pool from the drop-down menu.
- Choose to either randomize student questions each time an assessment is submitted or randomize student questions once for all submissions.
- Enter the point value for correct answers on each question. Note that all questions in this random draw must be worth the same amount of points.
- (Optional) For True/False, Multiple Choice, and Single Correct questions, you may also enter a negative point value to be deducted from the assessment score if a question is answered incorrectly.
Note: Point values entered here override any value that was specified for individual questions in the corresponding Question Pool.
If "Random draw from question pool" is selected, the following options will display.
- Enter the number of questions to draw from the selected question pool.
- Select the question pool from the drop-down menu.
- Choose to either randomize student questions each time an assessment is submitted or randomize student questions once for all submissions.
- Enter the point value for correct answers on each question. Note that all questions in this random draw must be worth the same amount of points.
- (Optional) For True/False, Multiple Choice, and Single Correct questions, you may also enter a negative point value to be deducted from the assessment score if a question is answered incorrectly.
Note: Point values entered here override any value that was specified for individual questions in the corresponding Question Pool.
If "Fixed and Random draw from question pool" is selected, the following options will display.
Fixed question selection
- Choose a question pool.
- Select one or more questions from that pool to be used in the assessment. All users will receive the selected questions.
Random question selection
- Enter the number of questions to draw from the selected question pool.
- Select the question pool from the drop-down menu.
- Choose to either randomize student questions each time an assessment is submitted or randomize student questions once for all submissions.
Scoring
- Enter the point value for correct answers on each question. Note that all questions in this set must be worth the same amount of points.
- (Optional) For True/False, Multiple Choice, and Single Correct questions, you may also enter a negative point value to be deducted from the assessment score if a question is answered incorrectly.
Note: Point values entered here override any value that was specified for individual questions in the corresponding Question Pool.
If "Random draw from multiple question pools" is selected, the following options will display.
- Enter the number of questions to draw from the selected question pools.
- Select two or more question pools from the drop-down menu.
- Choose to either randomize student questions each time an assessment is submitted or randomize student questions once for all submissions.
- Enter the point value for correct answers on each question. Note that all questions in this random draw must be worth the same amount of points.
- (Optional) For True/False, Multiple Choice, and Single Correct questions, you may also enter a negative point value to be deducted from the assessment score if a question is answered incorrectly.
Note: Point values entered here override any value that was specified for individual questions in the corresponding Question Pool.
Add Metadata. (Optional)
Enter Metadata, such as the objective, keyword, and rubric, into the text boxes provided.
Click Save.
Click Save to save your part settings and return to the assessment editing screen.
View assessment.
You will be returned to the assessment editing screen with the random draw question set shown. You may add additional questions or question sets by adding more parts to the assessment.
