How do I recreate a Hypothesis assignment?

Generally, there are two occasions when an instructor needs to recreate a Hypothesis assignment: (1) if the instructor had inadvertently deleted the assignment on a Lessons page or (2) when the instructor seeks to copy course content from one site to another. The second scenario is due to the constraint where Hypothesis assignments from the originating site will not be readily available for immediate use and must be re-created on the new site.

Scenario 1: If you inadvertently deleted the assignment:

Create a new Hypothesis assignment with the original document; any previously entered annotations will be preserved. If the original Gradebook item associated with the deleted assignment still exists, use the same name when recreating the Hypothesis item. This will associate the new Hypothesis assignment to the existing Gradebook item along with any grades previously entered.

Scenario 2: If you are importing content to another site:

After completing the course content copy process, find the copied Hypothesis assignment on the new site. This item is a placeholder marked as Deleted’

Click the Delete icon to remove.

Click the trash icon and confirm to delete the old Hypothesis assignment. Then, create a new Hypothesis assignment based on the original document or webpage for students to annotate.

Note: If you had selected Gradebook as part of the course content copy process, Hypothesis gradebook item(s) will be copied to the new site. To associate the new Hypothesis assignments with those gradebook items, you must use the same assignment titles to match the gradebook item’s name when recreating the Hypothesis assignment.
