How do I take attendance?

To take attendance for your class, you will first need to click on the Attendance tool in your course site, assuming it has been added to your course site.

There are two ways to take attendance: you can either take an attendance for an existing attendance item, or you can use the Take Attendance Now button to create a new attendance item.

Take attendance for an existing item

  1. Select an existing attendance item from the Attendance tab.

  2. You will be taken to a page where you can see your list of students in the Take Attendance table.

  3. For each student, you have the option of selecting one of the following statuses: Present, Absent, Excused, Late, or Left Early. To mark all students as a status, click on the Choose One drop-down menu and select a status. Then you can adjust individual students' attendance statuses by clicking on the appropriate icon next to their names.

    • Once you have selected a status for a student, the attendance record will save automatically.

  4. You also have the option to leave a comment by clicking on the comment bubble next to a student's name. The visibility of the comments to students is controlled in the Settings tab.

  5. Click the refresh icon next to the Attendance Item Statistics box to see the statistics update based on the new attendance records.

Take attendance using the Take Attendance Now button

  1. Click the Take Attendance Now button above the table on the Attendance tab.

  2. The Attendance tool will automatically create an attendance item for the date and time when you clicked the button.

  3. For each student, you have the option of selecting one of the following statuses: Present, Absent, Excused, Late, or Left Early.
