Design Tips

Consider the following tips and recommendations to self-assess both the quality of each Lessons page and the quality of the organization of Lessons pages (or page hierarchy) within a given course site in Sakai.

  1. Tip: Choose an organizing scheme, and partition your course into discrete units and lessons.
  2. Tip: Adopt a clear naming convention, and apply it consistently across the page hierarchy.
  3. Tip: Extend your naming convention to include Assignments, Tests & Quizzes, and Forums.
  4. Tip: Define the scope and purpose of each page.
  5. Tip: Edit each page to a modest length.
  6. Tip: Begin each page with a heading that matches the Lessons page title.
  7. Tip: Include an introductory paragraph and/or learning objectives on each page.
  8. Tip: Clarify the context, purpose, and expectations for each section, activity, etc.
  9. Tip: Apply standards of good visual design and accessibility throughout your pages.
  10. Tip: Plan in advance for updates.
