Sakai 21 - Course and Project Sites: What templates are available for creating new Sakai course sites?

What templates are available for creating new Sakai course sites?

When instructors request a new Sakai course site through the Request Course form, the site is copied from a template, which contains general tools and pages that must be updated by the instructor before publishing the site to students. Instructors can choose from among the following templates.

  1. Standard
  2. Minimal

Standard Template

The Standard template is designed to help instructors share resources and information in a consistent, organized, and student-friendly layout. The template contains tools, pages, and prompts that may be useful for the average course. Specifically, a Course Information page is used for posting a syllabus and other general course information. A Weekly Content page contains subpages for each week of the course, where instructors can post relevant instructional content and links to Sakai activities (such as Assignments, Forum discussion topics, or Tests & Quizzes) as appropropriate. Instructors should plan to update the homepage, gradebook, site tools, and content for each site to reflect their goals and preferences.

The Minimal template is designed for courses where Sakai will be used primarily to post a syllabus and communicate learning progress via the Gradebook. Additional tools or pages may be subsequently added to one's site as desired.
