Sakai 23 - Zoom Meetings: Resolving ‘Unauthorized’ Error Messages in Firefox
Important: The Zoom Meetings tool in Sakai is no longer available to instructors to add to course sites. Information related to this transition and the status of PLU’s licensing for Zoom can be found on the PLU Status Page blog. Sakai integration with Zoom Meetings will be unavailable for Summer 2025 course sites and beyond.
Google Meet is available to use as an alternative to Zoom within your course. To make use of Google Meet in Sakai, refer to How do I integrate Google Meet with Sakai? and the Transition Guide from Zoom to Google Meet.
Resolving ‘Unauthorized’ Error Messages in Firefox
When using Firefox and the Zoom Meetings tool in Sakai, instructors who start a meeting or students who join a meeting may receive an error message that states “Unauthorized” as depicted below. While using Chrome instead of Firefox would workaround this problem, the steps that follow should resolve the issue in Firefox.

Go to Zoom Meetings

Click the Firefox shield icon to the left of the URL.

Turn OFF the switch labeled Enhanced Tracking Protection.
Click the blue switch once to turn it off, which will then appear gray. Doing this will disable this option for Sakai but not for other sites.

Refresh the page.
If presented with a Confirm dialog, like the following, click Resend.

Join or Start the meeting.
Students would click the Join button to join a meeting as depicted below. Instructors would click the Start button to start the meeting. This should open a new browsing tab with the possible remaining prompts to join or start the meeting using your Zoom client.
