Sakai 23 - Zoom Meetings: Can I create meetings only for a particular group of students?

Important: The Zoom Meetings tool in Sakai is no longer available to instructors to add to course sites. Information related to this transition and the status of PLU’s licensing for Zoom can be found on the PLU Status Page blog. Sakai integration with Zoom Meetings will be unavailable for Summer 2025 course sites and beyond.

Google Meet is available to use as an alternative to Zoom within your course. To make use of Google Meet in Sakai, refer to How do I integrate Google Meet with Sakai? and the Transition Guide from Zoom to Google Meet.

Can I create meetings only for a particular group of students?

The Zoom integration is not a group-aware tool. Zoom Meetings does not recognize or distinguish among groups of students defined in Sakai, which means that any meeting scheduled through the Zoom Meetings tool could be joined by any student in the course site.

An approach that still uses the Zoom Meetings tool could be to apply a clear naming convention to the meeting titles when scheduling them in order to make group-specific distinctions more apparent.

Otherwise, scheduling Zoom meetings outside the Zoom Meetings tool and sharing the meeting information via Google Calendar or a designated place in Sakai (e.g., within a Lessons page that an instructor creates) can serve as an alternative.
