HandBrake: Compressing Video
Encoding a video with HandBrake will always compress the size of the file. If a video file is too large, encode it with HandBrake. Handbrake is available on computers in the Library Design Lab and Wiegand Design Lab, and can be installed onto personal computers. Full Guide: View/Download
To compress a video:
- Launch HandBrake. A pop-up will appear.
- Alternatively, if HandBrake is already open, click “Open Source” to the top-left.

If the new video file still isn’t small enough, select a lower quality preset in HandBrake and encode again. Be aware that reducing the quality will affect the way the video looks.
