Using the VideoMicro II with a Smartphone

To use with a smartphone, you may first need to connect the Lightning-3mm (aux) adapter that should be included in the bag. Once done, or if your phone has a headphone jack, then follow along below.

Connection Steps:

Connect the black end of the cable (with two rings on the plug) into the microphone, then connect the gray end of the cable (with three rings on the plug) into the adapter, then plug this into your phone.

If you’re using a phone that has a 3.5mm headphone port, you can simply plug the gray end of the cable directly into your phone without the need for the adapter.

Once connected, your device should automatically detect the VideoMicro II and set it as the default microphone, replacing your device’s in-built microphone, instantly giving you high-quality audio.

Choosing a Windscreen

The Foam windscreen should be chosen for most audio needs.

This windscreen helps prevent plosives, wind noise, and other unwanted noises from affecting the mic and creating a popping sound, or overwhelming the mic.

Foam windscreen

The Fluffy windscreen should be used primarily outdoors, or in heavily windy environments.

Be aware, that the fluffy windscreen may show up on Wide angles on phone cameras, depending on the placement.

Further information about VideoMicro II:

This microphone has a Supercardoid polar pattern, meaning it picks up sound directly in front, most sound on the sides, and a little directly behind.

Make sure to have this mic pointing directly at your subject, and avoid unwanted noise from behind.
