Premiere Pro: Exporting Projects

Adobe Premiere Pro 2021. Be aware that different versions of Premiere will vary in appearance and functionality. The following instructions are based on the Editing workspace interface.

Projects need to be exported in order to consolidate edits and create a single video file that can be played outside of Premiere. If a project has multiple sequences, make sure all desired clips are put into one sequence prior to exporting.

To export a project into a video file:
  1. Make sure the Timeline is selected and the correct sequence is opened.
  2. Navigate to File > Export > Media... A new window named Export Settings will appear. This window has many options, the most important being:
  • Format: the type of file to be produced. H.264 is a standard, recommended format.
  • Preset: settings for the selected file format. Leave this as Match Source to avoid issues.
  • Output name: click this to name the file and choose a storage location.

  • Preview with the monitor to make sure the correct sequence is being exported. Below the monitor, ensure that Entire Sequence is selected next to Source Range.
  • Click Export. Exporting can last from minutes to hours, depending on the length of complexity of the project.
  • When done, a video file that can be uploaded to YouTube or Google Drive will be created on the computer.
