WordPress is a free, easy-to-use website builder and blogging platform that’s used by over 60 million websites. Websites made in WordPress can be used for group projects, portfolios, blogging, and more. Each sites can be customized with a wide variety of design choices. WordPress is very customizable with a large library of theme options and available plugins that change the user experience. The goal of this guide is to get acquainted with the base features of a standard WordPress installation and start building websites and blogs.
WordPress comes in two varieties: WordPress.com, and WordPress.org. The process for logging into and setting up a site will depend on the type of site being used. The instructions in this guide apply to sites built with the PLU Digital Humanities Lab version of WordPress and may not translate to sites built with WordPress.com or other versions.
