WordPress: Setting up & Logging In
WordPress, Version: 5.3.2. Be aware that different versions of WordPress will vary in appearance and functionality. Full Guide: View/Download
A few types of WordPress sites are available. The process for logging into and setting up a site will depend on the type of site being used.
Primarily used for personal sites and portfolios. These sites are created, managed, and hosted directly through WordPress.com. The URL will typically end with “___.wordpress.com”, such as: “myportfolio.wordpress.com”. NOTE: All instructions in this guide apply to the WP Admin dashboard. To access this view in a WordPress.com site, click “WP Admin” from the bottom of the menu to the left.
This is the official site of WordPress. The WordPress software can be downloaded from WordPress.org, then used to build a site to be hosted outside of WordPress. For example, the PLU website is built with WordPress, but since it’s hosted elsewhere, there is no “___.wordpress.com” in the URL.
Some classes use sites that are hosted through the Digital Humanities (DH) lab. These sites will have a unique [Name], such as the name of the class or individual student, followed by “___. pludhlab.org”. Entering this web address will display the home page of the site. To make changes to the site, such as to write a post/page or adjust the appearance, add “/wp-admin” to the end.
