Audition: Sharing & Transporting Projects

Version: Adobe Audition 2020. Be aware that different versions of Audition will vary in appearance and functionality. Full Guide: View/Download

The easiest way to create an audio project is to record and edit  on the same computer, but sometimes it's necessary to transfer files between machines, especially for group projects. As mentioned in the Saving Projects section, Audition sessions contain a mixture of data files (.sesx) and audio files. When moving a project from one computer to another, it is imperative to include all files, otherwise parts will be missing and the project cant be opened properly.

When working in Audition, the best practice is to save and store all audio and project files together in a folder from the start. That way, assets can be easily located and moved if needed. But, in case files arent stored properly, the safest way to move an entire project is to export the Audition session. This process will copy the session and audio files in one location, which can be moved to a flash drive or Google Drive easily.

To export an Audition session:
  1. Create a new folder on the computer for the files to be saved to.
  2. Open the Adobe Audition Session file in Multitrack Mode.
  3. Navigate to File > Export > Session A pop-up will appear.
  4. In pop-up:
    1. Name the file.
    2. Select a location (the folder created in step 1).
    3. Make sure "Include markers and other metadata in session" and "Save copies of associated files" are both checked.
  5. Click OK when done.
A .sesx data file and folder containing all audio will be created and saved in the folder made in step 1. This folder can be moved to a flash drive, uploaded to Google Drive, or emailed.
