Screencast-O-Matic: Publishing to Video
Screencast-O-Matic, v2.4.0. Be aware that different versions of Screencast-O-Matic will vary in appearance and functionality. Full Guide: View/Download
Recordings need to be published before it can be shared or viewed outside of Screencast-O-Matic. Publishing as a video file will consolidate all the edits and recordings(s) into one video.
To save the recording(s) as a video file:
- Open/access the recording.
- If the recording isn’t already open, select it from the main window.
- If the recording was just done, select the “Save/Upload” option.
- If in the editing mode, click “Done.”

Depending on how long the recording is, publishing will take from a few seconds to several minutes. The recording and edits will be maintained in Screencast-O-Matic in case additional edits need to be made.
To select an alternative publishing method, click the button to the top-right of the Options pop-up and select an option. We recommend saving the video as a file as previous described, and then uploading it separately (such as to YouTube or Google Drive), instead of sending recordings directly to other platforms.
Sharing the Video
After the recording is done and the final video has been published, it can be shared in multiple ways. We recommend uploading the video to YouTube or sharing it through Google Drive. Videos on YouTube and Drive are shareable to other people. We don't recommend uploading videos directly to Sakai.
