The background of a design can be added in two ways: with a preset background, or as an image. Preset backgrounds come in various patterns and colors.
To use a color background for a design:
- Click on your canvas.
- Click the color spectrum square in the toolbar above the canvas.
- Add a solid color or gradient in the preset options OR add your own solid color or gradient.
To add your own solid color or gradient:
- Click the color spectrum square within the background menu.
- For a Solid Color, select the "Solid Color" section and choose your color from the palette, or enter a hex code.
(See photo below) - For a Gradient, select the "Gradient" section and choose both the type of gradient, and the different colors included.
(See photo below)
To set an image as the background:
- Insert an image. A stock image or uploaded image can be used. See Canva: Adding Photos for more details about adding images to a design.
- (Optional): resize the photo to cover the entire Canvas. Click-and-drag the handles that appear on the corners of the photo.
- Use the Crop menu in the Edit Photo menu to crop if needed.
- Right-click the image. A new pop-up will appear.
- Select “Replace Background.”
