Audacity: Saving & Sharing Projects
Audacity, Version: 3.1.3. Be aware that different versions of Audacity will vary in appearance and functionality.
When working in Audacity, always save work as an Audacity project (.aup3 file). This will prevent permanently modifying any original audio files. Audacity projects contain all audio clips and edits for the project into one file. After recording a clip or track, save a backup MP3 of the recording prior to making any edits.
Be aware that older versions of Audacity save project files into two separate components: an .aup file, and a data folder. If working with an older version of Audacity (before version 3), be sure to share/transport both components.
To save an Audacity project:
- Navigate to File > Save Project > Save Project As. If an alert window appears, click OK.
- Enter a name.
- Locate and select the desired storage location.
- Click Save. The Audacity project file will be stored on the computer and appear as such:
To share or transport an Audacity project file, transfer the file to an external drive or cloud storage, such as Google Drive.
