Gravit Designer: Arranging Objects & Layering
Gravit Designer, Version: 2020-1.3.4. Be aware that different version of Gravit will vary in appearance and functionality. Access Gravit Designer at designer.io.
Expand each section below to see its content.
Objects, such as text, shapes, and images, are automatically placed on their own layer when created in/added to a document. Layers are like a stack of sheets, in which the each sheet is transparent except for the object contained with it. The transparent areas of layers are see-through to the layer(s) below. The top-most layer in the Layers tab will appear in front of all layers below it and the bottom-most layer will appear as the background.
Layers Panel:
- Delete: select it in the Layers panel and click the trash can icon next to the panel name. Deleting a layer will delete the object associated with it.
- Lock: hover the cursor over the layer and click the padlock icon that appears. Lock layers to prevent moving them accidentally.
- Visibility: hover the cursor over the layer and click the eyeball icon that appears. Toggle the visibility to temporarily hide a layer without deleting it.
- Re-arrange: click-and-drag it up or down within the Layers panel. Re-arrange layers to change their stacking order. Alternatively, right-click the desired object in the Canvas and select an option in the Arrange pop-up.
- Rename: double-click its name.
Each document can have multiple pages. Project such as brochures, double-sided yers, and presentations are created using more than one page. The Pages panel is located in the Layers tab.
Pages adjustments:
- New page: click the Create New Page button to the top-right of the Pages panel. Newly created pages will have the same dimensions as the first page thats created with new documents.
- Delete: select it and click the trashcan icon to the top-right of the panel.
- Lock: hover the cursor over the page and click the padlock icon.
- Visibility: hover the cursor over the page and click the eyeball icon. To re-arrange a page, click-and-drag it up or down in the Pages panel.
- Rename: double-click its name.
Grouping objects together allows them to be moved as a unit instead of independently. This can be helpful if the spacing between multiple shapes or text boxes is perfect, but the placement of the objects on the page still needs to be adjusted.
To group multiple objects together:
- Hold the Shift key and select the desired objects.
- Click the Group button from the Toolbar.
- The objects will be grouped together as one, and placed into a group layer in the Layers panel. All grouped objects will now move as one unit.
To ungroup, select the group and click the Ungroup button from the Toolbar.
