When a new Photoshop document is created, its saved as a Photoshop file, .psd. However, when an image is opened with Photoshop, it remains as an image file, such as a PNG. We recommend to always save projects as Photoshop documents to avoid altering the original image.

- Navigate to File > Save. A new window will appear.
- Enter a name in the Save As field.
- Select a storage location.
- Click the Format drop-down, and select "Photoshop."
- When done, click "Save."
After all edits are done and a .psd file is saved, save the document as an image file (JPEG, PNG, PDF, etc).
