Version: Adobe Photoshop CC 2021. Be aware that different versions of Photoshop will vary in appearance and functionality. Full Guides: Photoshop: Images, Photoshop: Graphic Design

To begin editing a photo with Photoshop:

  2. Once booted, navigate to File > Open. A new window will appear.
  3. Locate the desired image stored on the computer.
  4. Click Open.
The image will import automatically as a background layer in the Layers Panel and the canvas will be fitted to the size of the image. See Photoshop: Layering & Object Arrangement for more details about layers. Photos must be saved onto the computer or connected flash drive in order to open them in Photoshop.

To create a blank document, such as for drawing/graphic design:
  1. Launch Photoshop.
  2. Click "Create New."
  • Alternatively, navigate to File > New.
  • Select the appropriate intent for the project at the top of the window (Photo, Print, Art & Illustration, etc).
  • Adjust document settings, located to the right of the window, as desired:
    • Orientation
    • Document size
    • Unit of measurement (pixels, inches, etc)
    • Color Mode (RGB, CMYK, etc)
  • When done, click Create. The document will be created, with one layer titled "Background" in the Layers panel.
