Network Registrations and Internet Access
PLU’s Information and Technology Services department provides wired and wireless network connectivity options for PLU community members as well as guests while on campus. All devices on the PLU network must be registered through the campus registration system at gatekeeper.plu.edu before access is allowed to any network resources. Assistance with problems related to your network connection is provided through the Help Desk, located on the first floor of the library.
Plug your network cable into the network wall jack or into your network switch or enable your wireless connection.
Open your preferred web browser (Chrome, Mozilla Firefox, etc.)
If you aren’t automatically directed to the registration page, type “gatekeeper.plu.edu” into the address bar of your browser and press enter.
A web page will be displayed asking for your agreement to campus computing policies. If you understand and agree to these policies click on the “I Agree” button to continue.
You will then be asked to provide your ePass username and password to continue. Enter your credentials and click the “Login” button. A list of any current registrations that you have will be displayed.
Select the button to either add a new registration or replace one of the devices that you currently have registered.
At the completion of the process you will get a notice stating that you have successfully registered your computer. You will then need to either restart your computer or disconnect and reconnect to a PLU access point for the changes to take effect. Please allow 2-3 minutes for registration to complete before contacting the Help Desk for assistance. Once you have finished the process you will want to open a browser and confirm that web pages are loading properly to verify your connection. If you experience problems, please contact the I&TS Help Desk at 253-535-7525 or stop by the desk in person on the first floor of the library.
Wireless connectivity is available from most locations on the PLU campus. In order to take advantage of this resource you must first have a laptop with a wireless network card or some other device that is WiFi enabled. Support is available from the Help Desk for connecting to PLU access points; however, PLU does not support personally owned access points and cannot guarantee they will work in your area.
Wired connections are available in many locations around campus, which will allow you access to the network once your device has been registered. An Ethernet network cable is needed to use one of these connections, which can be purchased from any store that carries accessories for electronic equipment. In the residence halls, wired connections are available with at least one port available for each resident. A wired network connection will be your fastest and most reliable connection option.
If you don’t currently have an ePass account and need temporary internet access while at PLU, you have the option to register your device as a “Guest”. Once you agree to the policies at gatekeeper.plu.edu you can select the “Guest Registration” button near the bottom of the page. You will need to provide some basic information about yourself and then click the button at the bottom to finish your registration. A pop-up will be displayed asking you to restart your device to complete the process. This will grant you internet access until 4am of the morning following the registration. The process can then be repeated if access is needed for additional time.
In some cases the device you are trying to register does not have a browser available to get to gatekeeper.plu.edu for registration or otherwise will not give access to the registration system. Examples of these types of devices include video game systems, some WiFi enabled phones, or media streaming devices. If you need one of these devices registered, you will need to contact the Help Desk at 253-535-7525 to have someone manually register the device. You will need to provide them with your ePass username and the MAC address of the network card. In many cases the MAC address is listed on a label located somewhere on the equipment; however, with others you will have to locate it within the settings of the device. The Help Desk will be able to assist you in finding this information for most types of equipment. Manual registrations generally are done within 24 hours of when they are requested and you will be contacted via phone or email to let you know that the registration is complete.
